We are obsessed with organic lavender essential oil. We feature it in our Sleepy Head Bathwash because of its known benefits. Distilled from the plant Lavandula angustifolia, lavender oil promotes relaxation. Lavender essential oil smells divine and is traditionally used for soothing the nervous system.  Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular and versatile essential oils used in aromatherapy. 

Organic Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil

Lemon Myrtle is a rich, uplifting and very refreshing essential oil.  To some, this oil has an aroma that’s even more ‘lemon-y’ than lemon!  We love its fresh, clean scent and we include it in the Sleepy Head Bathwash because it is the smell of happiness!

**Our Natural Preservatives**

Anytime you have water in a product you must have a preserving system. Otherwise the product grows bacteria and mould. To have a certified organic product the preserving systems we are allowed to use to pass the ACO (Australian Certified Organic) certification process is extremely limited. Without a preserving system we don’t have a product.

There are only two preservatives we are allowed to use and still be ACO certified. Potassium sorbate is approved by Australian Certified Organic (ACO) for use in organic skincare products. It is mainly used as a food preservative, but it can also be used in organic skincare products. Potassium sorbate inhibits moulds, fungus and only some bacteria, so it is best to be combined with another preservative. The potassium sorbate in our products is a natural organic compound. It is mild, non-toxic and non-sensitising. I would never be okay with this preservative being in foods and it would be my preference to not use ANY preservative in this product but that would be actually really unsafe and would put kids at more risk than not inhibiting the bacteria.

The second one we use has to legally be known by either the term ‘fragrance’ or ‘perfume’  Boy did I battle with this as I LOATHE those two words. However I researched the source thoroughly and I was comfortable with it’s use. This organic preservative is a broad-spectrum anti-microbial vegetable-based preservative sourced from almond and vanilla – which also acts as a preservative. It inhibits bacteria, mould and yeasts. It is approved for use in organic skincare by ACO. (Australian Certified Organic) Board and can only be known as ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’

Confusing, isn’t it? There are times when ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’ on a label is OK and other times that it is not OK when it represents something synthetic and nasty! In our product ‘parfum’ is a vegetable based natural preservative and not a synthetic one. You cannot have an Australian Certified Organic Product and use synthetic ingredients. Our Sleepy Head Bath Wash has passed the Australian Certified Organic Certification Process.

Is Sleepy Head Bathwash safe from birth?

• Yes, it is completely safe to use on newborns and premature babies.

How do I use Sleepy Head Bathwash?

What is the Parfum in Sleepy Head Balm?

• The Parfum is a vegetable based natural preservative and not a synthetic one.

Is Sleepy Head Bathwash tear-free?

• Unfortunately, that's not a claim we can make. Our Sleepy Head Bathwash is very gentle, but everybody can react differently.

What is the consistency of Sleepy Head Bathwash?

• You may find the consistency more runny than other bathwashes as we don’t use any preservatives or fillers to thicken the product, so it will be thinner than a synthetic bathwash.

Does Sleepy Head Bathwash makes bubbles?

• It will make bubbles when squirted under running water but it won’t be like a synthetic bubble bath that produces a bath full of bubbles.

Does Sleepy Head Bathwash contain any nasties?

• Sleepy Head Bathwash does not contain triclosan, synthetic fragrances, parabens, artificial colours, formaldehyde causing agents or animal derived ingredients.
